tapering and my iron stomach

So I'm officially tapering for the 50k. Monday I ran 2 very easy, slow miles. Tuesday I ran 14 miles, but took it easy with the pace. It was a beautiful day out and it was a run that did not feel like work. Today I ran 4 faster miles at the park. Pretty easy mileage compared to the 72ish miles a week I have been running. My goal is to hit 40 or 45 miles this week and then cut back to 25 or 30 miles next week. I know if I cut back to much, I'll get stale and antsy, but I also know that I have a tendency to overdo things, so I'm really trying to be mindful of how my body is feeling and leave my head out of it.

I have also been reading a lot about nutrition during endurance races. I had an appointment with a dietician who specialized in endurance sports and we talked a lot about the day of the race. I am pretty lucky in that I can eat or drink just about anything before a run and be fine. I can also run a few miles on an empty stomach if I'm getting up early and I'm crunched for time. I had some GI issues with Clif Shot Blocks during my first half marathon, but I'm not sure if the Shot Blocks contributed to my issues or if it was just a coincidence. I have used them before and since without any issues. My standard pre-race meal is oatmeal, PB&J or a bagel with a banana or two. But yesterday, before heading out for 14 miles, I had a greek yogurt, banana and BelVita biscuits. I was eating breakfast while driving Logan to daycare, and of course Logan decides that morning that he all of the sudden LOVES bananas and must eat mine. Oh and my yogurt too. So I ate a Fiber One bar that was in my bag. I know so many people have very sensitive stomachs when it comes to running, but I just don't. Or at least I haven't so far. So I'm working on a plan for the race. I will probably go with my standard oatmeal and a banana during the car ride up, about an hour drive. About an hour before the race start I'm planning to eat a PB&J. The race is providing food and drink at the aid stations. I know that I prefer real food to sports products during long runs, but I want to make sure that I'm not in a situation where I'm out or the aid stations are out of whatever I want to eat.
