I got in... Stone Cat 50 Miler

A few weeks ago I entered the lottery for the Stone Cat 50 miler in Ipswich, MA on November 8. I entered it on impulse, but after reading about the race, the course and looking at the elevation profile. With a total of 5500 ft elevation gain it seems a bit milder than the two big 50 milers in my backyard: Virgil Crest (12000 ft gain) and Cayuga Trails 50 (8500 ft gain).

So here goes... my third shot at 50 miles.

The first was a DNS at Hancock Shaker Village 50 Miler Sept 21, 2013. The weather had been awful, I was not feeling too great, and I was worried about the race being too close to the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon only 3 weeks later. I decided attempting a Boston Qualifying time was a more important goal than the 50 miler. This was a very good decision because I did qualify for Boston by over 5 minutes.

My second attempt was at the Finger Lakes 50s two weeks ago. I decided to drop from the 50 mile to the 50k in May because my mileage and long runs were just not where they needed to be to attempt 50 miles. This was another very good decision, because completing the 50k took everything I had. I would not have finished if I went out for a third lap.
